I prefer to work with wood as it comes directly from the tree. Raw, wild pieces that have a lot of character are the most dramatic. It is this character, or spirit, that I am seeking to discover. I endeavor to uncover it in a way that allows harmony between the wildness of nature and the finely crafted elements of the work.

Trees grow fluidly, laying down cell after cell. The tree uses sunlight to transfer water, earth, and air into a frozen moment in time.

My work is an interplay between the fluid growth of the tree and the fluid carving of the wood as it turns on my lathe. My carving carefully exposes the work that the tree has already done.

Always seeking the graceful movements in the wood, I strive for an asymmetrical balance in the piece.

As a craftsman, it is my duty to expose each tree's history in a graceful form that celebrates its life. It is during the process of shaping and polishing the form that the inner, timeless beauty of the wood is revealed.

It is my pleasure to present this discovery in a form which I hope you will find beautiful and enriching.
